Speaker Bio: Rhonda Sanders is the CEO of the Arkansas Foodbank. The Arkansas Foodbank acquires, processes and distributes food and other services to 33 counties in Arkansas. In January of 2016 the Arkansas Foodbank and the Arkansas Rice Depot merged to form a new and stronger organization focused on helping those in need have access to nutritious food. Under Rhonda’s leadership the new organization distributed 26.5 million pounds of food in 2017 which provided enough food for approximately 22 million meals.  Currently Rhonda serves as the national chair for the Feeding America Policy Engagement and Advocacy Committee and serves on the Feeding America Disaster Relief Task Force. Rhonda is a member of the Children’s Behavioral Health Care Commission and served as a member of the Child Health Advisory Committee for ACT 1220 from 2003 to 2008. During her tenure on the committee the Body Mass Index project was implemented in Arkansas and State Nutrition and Physical Activity Standards for Schools were adopted by the Arkansas Department of Education. Rhonda stays engaged with the community by serving on multiple committees, boards and task forces to help improve the well being of vulnerable Arkansans.  She is a graduate of Ouachita Baptist University with a degree in Accounting and received a Master in Public Health from the UAMS College of Public Health.

CAHRA is partnering with the Arkansas Food Bank in the month of December for a Food and Fund Drive to help fight hunger in the central Arkansas area. We are asking members and guests to bring nutritious, non-perishable items to the December 12, 2019 Holiday Luncheon meeting, 11:30am – 1:00pm, at Next Level Events.

·    The Arkansas Foodbank is the foundation in the fight against hunger. We are the largest food bank in the state serving 33 counties and over 280,000 people a year.

·    One in five people in Arkansas may not know where their next meal is coming from. We find pathways to connect people, resources and food to reach those in need, providing dignity, hope and a brighter future for all Arkansans.

·    Nothing can measure what it means to help everyday people take control of their lives. For these individuals, hope is a hot meal, a bag of groceries, a well-nourished child.

·    The best way to make a difference is to make a monetary donation. To donate, you can visit The Foodbank is very efficient. Every dollar donated provides food for 5 nutritious meals!

·    Most needed items include:  canned meat, canned fruit or vegetables, beans, soups or sauces, peanut butter, cereal, rice or pasta.

·    Together we are united to fight hunger!

·        Social Media tags:  #FacingHungerTogether  #UnitedToFightHunger  @ArkansasFoodbank
