PROGRAM TOPIC:  "Reasonable Suspicion:  The 411 on 420"

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Reasonable suspicion and the signs/symptoms of someone under the influence, as well as the legal aspects, as we get closer to the implementation of medical marijuana. 
Listed below are some of the issues to be discussed:

  • What to observe
  • Signs & symptoms of drug misuse/abuse
  • How to approach the situation
  • When to test and not to test
  • What if someone refuses a test
  • The role Medical Marijuana rules play with regard to reasonable suspicion


SPEAKERS:  Daniel L. Herrington, Partner (Friday Eldredge & Clark, LLP) and John Vinson, Pharm.D. (VP of Practice Innovation, AR Pharmacists Association)

Daniel L. Herrington is a partner in the Labor and Employment Relations Practice Group focused on representing employers in all areas of labor and employment law, including ADA, FMLA, Wage and Hour, Title VII, OSHA and NLRA. He proactively works with his management clients to help ensure their employment decisions can withstand legal scrutiny. Dan has successfully defended those decisions before state and federal agencies and courts, including the EEOC, OSHA, NLRB, DOL, Arkansas Supreme Court and U.S. Court of Appeals for Eighth Circuit. He also has extensive experience in litigating covenant not to compete and trade secret cases. Twice voted as one of the top labor and employment attorneys in Arkansas by the readers of Arkansas Business, Dan has also been recognized nationally for his work in labor and employment since 2010 in Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business and since 2011 by Mid-South Super Lawyers and The Best Lawyers in America. In addition, he was named by Best Lawyers as "Lawyer of the Year 2018" for his work in labor and employment litigation. Dan is sought after speaker on employment law topics and regularly presents to groups such as ARSHRM and its affiliate HR associations around the state.

John Vinson, Pharm.D., received his training at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Pharmacy.  Dr. Vinson is currently employed as the Vice President of Practice Innovation for the Arkansas Pharmacists Association in Little Rock, Arkansas. In this role, he oversees pharmacist professional affairs & ethical practices and supervises membership and communication for the organization. He also serves as the Executive Director for the Arkansas Pharmacy Foundation, a non-profit subsidiary of the Arkansas Pharmacists Association.  He also serves as the lead network facilitator for Arkansas CPESN, the first clinical integrated network of community-based pharmacies. Dr. Vinson has diverse professional experience as he previously was employed in the University for Arkansas Medical Sciences Regional Programs family medicine clinics.  In various roles, he worked as a clinician, teaching faculty and quality improvement leader.  Dr. Vinson also has professional experience as a community-based pharmacist, hospice pharmacist and as a hospital pharmacist.
