THE RESULTS ARE IN!!! During December's Holiday Networking Meeting, CAHRA members were given a list of 22 HR Related Topics and asked to vote on the most pressing topics for what they felt collectively as a group they would most like to hear about moving forward into the new year for 2010. Here are the top 11 Topics that received the highest votes (in no particular order): 1. HR - Making Things Fun at Work 2. Compliance HR vs. Being a Strategic HR Partner (Making HR a clearly needed profit center versus a ‘cost') 3. Motivating and Coaching your Employees 4. HR Metrics: Measuring HR to your boss 5. Terminating with Confidence/Avoiding Legal Pitfalls (What attorneys see as critical mistakes HR makes along the way that can win/lose cases) 6. Social Networking and Privacy (had the topic last year, but without any legal cases addressing this issue, so now, bringing in the legal side to the cases and looking for trends) 7. OSHA Recordable Injuries vs. Worker's Compensation...you mean they aren't the same thing? 8. Have a panel of three to four HR Managers to answer questions from the audience: Open mike HR? 9. Benefits Update: What is a Flexible Spending Account, etc... 10. Completing an Effective HR Audit 11. Recruiting and Maintaining Talent Thank you members for the great feedback and direction you would like to see the presentations take on! We look forward to tailoring future presentations in 2010 to some of the topics listed above. Thank you to all the members who signed up to assist Board Members with the chairs they represent. We will be contacting you soon! CAHRA also gave away three $100 gift cards to Wal-Mart for the winners of the networking game as well as door prizes for those that donated to the SHRM Foundation! CAHRA members raised over $150 dollars for the SHRM Foundation during this meeting alone!! Can goods were also collected for the needy, so thank you for bringing donations to feed the hungry. It's great to see members of the organization come together each month to socialize, learn, and improve community relations! See everyone at the next Meeting! Tanner Chapman VP of Programs

Student Lunch Partners
Have you been wondering what you could do to assist and encourage the next generation of HR professionals? CAHRA has the perfect opportunity for you to get involved and make a difference!
Your College Relations Committee is embarking on a college student outreach campaign. We are working to inform area students of all the exciting benefits CAHRA has in store for them – the annual Kathleen McComber scholarship, and affordable student membership in CAHRA and SHRM.
Besides the value of association with a professional organization, we are committed to offering students the vision of CAHRA sponsorship for:
-- a sustainable SHRM student chapter,
-- informative “Backpack to Briefcase” workshops, and
-- the ultimate goal of a student internship program.
All great journeys begin with one step, and our first step is to invite students to come to our meetings and find out what we are all about. To make this possible, we are asking for individual or business partners to sponsor students for lunch.
You may sponsor for one month (up to your selected limit on number of meals) or you may sponsor for a set dollar amount. Student lunches are invoiced at the true cost of the lunch - $20.00 per meal.
Our Lunch Partners will be recognized each month in our monthly newsletter, but the true recognition will come in the difference you make in the career path of an aspiring HR professional.
The monthly Business Sponsor for our Student Lunches is CAHRA.
Thank you for your sponsorship!

What is the SHRM Foundation?
It is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit affiliate of SHRM. The Foundation is a legally separate organization, and is not funded by SHRM membership dues.
The Foundation is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors from the HR profession, including academics, practitioners and representatives from SHRM.
The Foundation has a mission to maximize the impact of the HR profession on organizational decision-making and performance by promoting innovation, education, research, and the use of research-based knowledge.
The SHRM Foundation's work includes:
Innovative academic research grants. The SHRM Foundation is a leading funder of HR research. In 2008, the SHRM Foundation awarded a record $750,000 in grants to fund rigorous, original academic research with practical implications for HR management practice.
Scholarships. The SHRM Foundation awards $170,000 annually in education and certification scholarships to professional and student SHRM members, and doctoral students.
Educational resources. The SHRM Foundation's Effective Practice Guidelines series make research findings easily accessible to HR practitioners. The Foundation has also created a series of educational DVDs for SHRM chapter programming, staff trainings, and executive education sessions.
To support this work, the SHRM Foundation conducts an annual fundraising campaign. We are grateful for the generous support we receive from SHRM chapters and state councils, individuals, corporations and others. Your financial support is vital to ensure that the SHRM Foundation can continue this important work.
You can donate now by sending a check made out to SHRM Foundation to the CAHRA PO Box or bring it to the next couple of meetings.
Thank you, Kim Bullington
